Transitioning your parents, time constraints and multiple responsibilities make helping your parents ‘smart size’ into a new home difficult for many families.
It is overwhelming for many, causing fear and anxiety. Some children are seniors themselves and may not be physically able to help and feel frustrated. You do not need to face this challenge alone. With compassion, patience and respect working side by side with you and your parents, we will be assisting you. Together we will declutter, sort, pare down possessions and hope to create and preserve a legacy of treasures and memories that will never be forgotten.
Seniors are staying in their homes longer. Sometimes we can just make changes in their space so it will help them to remain in their home longer. For example; working with parents and family to sort through the basement they never go to. From here we can help them get rid of things they no longer use, and maybe pass on to family things that are important to them and they would like to stay in the family.
We can help make the spaces and storage they are using more accessible for them, less cluttered and more relaxing. Make sure the pathways in the home are clear and easy to maneuver around so that they are not tripping. For example; removing rugs, moving any excess furniture, maybe adding a railing, or support bars. The great thing about doing this while they are in their home, they can make the decisions about their possessions.
When it comes time to move to a retirement residence, the actual move will be so much easier since you have done so much work. We will help you plan your new space that you are moving into, making it as close as possible to the old space you’re leaving. It could be very overwhelming for parents and family. When we assist in your move we make things better, easier and we welcome you into your new home after we have done the work for you.
